Checklist for rolling out your performance management solution
So you’re thinking of implementing a performance management solution at your company but you are not sure where to start or what you need to consider. Here’s a short checklist to help you prepare so you give yourself the best opportunity for a successful rollout!
Like with any project the more effort you put into the planning the better the chances of success when it comes to execution.
Do you currently have a performance management process?
If you have a manual performance management process then take some time to reflect how the process is working – what’s going well and what’s not going so well. It may highlight some areas to consider when implementing a new solution.
Do you have senior management support?
It’s critical that senior management understands the benefits of an employee performance management solution and how it would support the goals and culture of the business. Such benefits include:
- Aligning and focusing staff on what really matters
- Improving employee engagement and communication
- Identifying and retaining the right people
- Improving the accuracy and overall quality of the review process
- And most importantly saving time and money by centralising and automating the process
It’s important during rollout that these benefits are reinforced throughout the organisation and key stakeholders are available to address any questions or concerns staff might have.
What technology do you want to use?
Do you want to purchase software and maintain it within your offices or go with a newer ‘cloud computing’ service like Talentevo. The benefits with a ‘cloud computing’ service are that you access it via an internet browser, you won’t need to buy hardware or software, you don’t need to involve IT people or worry about security, and you can get up and running in minutes.
Do you have a budget?
You need to consider a total budget for the performance management system, implementation and on-going administration and support. The good news is Talentevo is a low cost performance management solution and for a small business would cost less than the price of a computer to run for the year.
Do you have a training and support plan?
Like with any new initiative you need to consider what training and support is needed to make it a success and when that training or support is required. It’s important that the employees using the solution get off to a good start and the easier the solution is to use the better!
Do you have a communication plan?
This is one of the most important activities when rolling out your new performance management solution. You want to create a positive message why your company is making this improvement and how it’s going to help the business. It’s important to remember you have different audiences to communicate with (senior management, staff etc) and different channels you can use (presentations, email, online demo’s, policies and guides etc). Like a good film you want a strong introduction, a clear storyline that’s well communicated and a happy ending!
Try and always put yourself in the shoes of your audience and consider the questions or concerns they might have. It would also be a good idea to do some ‘practise runs’ with small groups in advance so you have an opportunity to refine any material in advance of the rollout. Best of luck with it and hopefully we’ll be the ones helping you!
